Home Birth Midwifery FAQs

Please reach me at goldenhourmidwifery@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

I have been attending births for 8 years and a practicing midwife for almost 5 years. I have attended hundreds of births in several birth centers and in families' homes. I am certified by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) and am licensed to practice in the state of Colorado.

A Doula is a non-medical member of your birth team. They offer continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during the birthing process. Even in home birth settings I love when families choose to have a doula.

I am trained to identify and manage emergency situations that may arise during birth. I carry emergency equipment with me, such as oxygen and medications to control bleeding, and have a plan in place to transfer you to a hospital if necessary.

As part of my licensing, I have to renew my certifications in CPR and neonatal resuscitation (NRP) every two years. To keep our skills sharp, my team and I do practice drills every few months.

Most insurance plans do not fully cover home birth, but may be an out-of-network option! Examples are: Aetna, Kaiser, Blue Cross, Healthshares.

I use a third-party biller for those families. Please contact me for additional support.

Absolutely! Sometimes we don't know all our options until we start asking questions. Many families think out of hospital care is not possible or available.

Even if you started care with another provider or perhaps in a different state, I can accept a late transfer up to 34 weeks.

If you are deciding between the two options, good for you - out of hospital birth can be very safe for low risk families!

There really isn't much that is different between birth center and home birth. I still provide the same supplies, medications,  and support you would receive at a birth center.

With a home birth, you get to stay in the comfort of your home!

Evidence has shown that leaving your home to go to the hospital or birth center can interrupt the flow of labor. When you are in a safe and familiar environment, you typically have faster labors with less bleeding.

Extra tired after birthing, you don't need to drive home - my team and I clean up and tuck you and baby into your own bed.

While Medicaid does not cover home birth midwifery services, it does cover doula care!

I cannot be your midwife, but I can be your doula. Check out my "Perinatal Support" and sign up for my doula support.
